Stockholm And Leyden Papyri Dye Recreation Project

I am coordinating a global collaboration to interpret and recreate methods from the world’s oldest surviving written record of the craft of dyeing, from the Stockholm and Leyden papyri, written in Thebes, Egypt in the 3rd century AD.

If you’d like to follow along with our journey as we share our research into the papyri’s arcane terminology and methods, as we conduct early tests of our interpreted methods, and then as we create final fibre works using what we’ve learned, follow the links below to the dedicated blog we’ve set up for this epic historic reenactment collaboration.

Learn about the history of the papyri here.

Learn about the dyers - across 4 continents - taking part in this collaboration.

Sign up here to receive our blog posts via email.

Collaborators will take turns sharing images and video clips of their research process and final results.
